Cultivating Christmas Cheer

We thought 2020 would never end, but here we are almost to the holidays at last! Pretty soon, the holiday rush will begin and honestly, we are SO ready for it. I think we can all agree that 2020 has been stressful enough so far, so let’s kick back and relax a little bit during the holidays. In this post, we’re sharing our favorite tips for creating a stress-free holiday season. Ready, set, go!

  1. Engage all of your senses. Getting into the holiday mood may be harder this year, and with good reason. If you need a little help feeling like Christmas, we recommend making yourself a little Christmas box that infuses all of your senses with Christmas cheer. Pick a favorite CD of Christmas music. Find a beloved essential oil that reminds you of Christmas. Put in your favorite Christmas treat. Add in a new Christmas ornament or two. Collect some photos of Christmases past to remind yourself of how much fun Christmas can be, especially if you spend it with your loved ones. Any time you’re feeling a little down, pull out the box and spend a little time enjoying your own personal Christmas.
  2. Gift thoughtfully. Many of us are still spending a lot of time at home, thanks to COVID. Start dedicating a little time each week to your Christmas shopping and crafting. Think very carefully about what the people in your life most need or want. Tight on funds? Think about gifting some of your own possessions that family members have expressed admiration for; write letters; pull out your art supplies; or think about baking special treats. Instead of going “all out,” zero in on gifting thoughtfully.
  3. Outsource. If you still want to throw a big party, wrap a lot of gifts, or make amazing dinners – we are all for it. But consider getting a little help! You can always hire us (wink wink), or consider a potluck party or potluck dinner or have a wrapping party (or go minimalist on your wrapping).
  4. Make time for what you really want to do. Sit down and make a list of the people, places and things that you’d really like to experience this year – the things that make Christmas into Christmas for you. Then prioritize accordingly!
